Their spines contain a potent neurotoxin that causes severe pain, swelling, sweating, and respiratory distress in humans, though stings are rarely fatal. Even worse - they are an invasive species with no natural predators in non-native waters so they’re creating real problems in the Western Atlantic, Caribbean and Mediterranean.
